Journals I Read

About Me

My Journal

Home

The world of on-line journals is vast. I tend to like journals that are funny, well-written, not too angsty and updated often (daily is nice!). Here is a selection of some of the best I've seen, in no particular order.

The funniest journal out there, Squishy, written by Pamie in Austin, TX. Pamie is a member of a comedy improv troupe, and it shows in her writing. No other journal makes me laugh as hard. That's not to say it's all a big group of laughs -- she can get all serious on your ass too. And she's a fellow recapper at Mighty Big TV!

Rob Rummel-Hudson is a recent new father, and writes The Book of Rob. I'm not sure if I started reading this because I used to live in Michigan or because he is on EVERY other journaler's must-read list. But he updates often, and he writes a lot. And it's all good, of course.

I never fail to get a laugh from Stee's journal, Plaintive Wail. Seriously, why aren't he and Pamie both getting paid lots and lots of fat American dollars for their work? Why?

James Lileks writes The Daily Bleat. The rest of his site is just as funny, including the Gallery of Regrettable Food.

Dana is funny. I can't get enough stories about her crazy co-workers. Go read Bobofett now!

Catherine's journal is beautiful, and the writing is excellent. And she updates SO MUCH! I am envious of her work ethic. Go check out Naked Eye

Sunshine, Mud and Rainbows is the journal of Dave Van, father of twins and living in Vancouver, Canada. You want controversy? Dave never fails to deliver. He's a great writer as well, and that fact gets lost sometimes in the hubbub.

Moira writes Freak Magnet, and doesn't update nearly often enough!

I started reading Amanda's journal back when she lived in L.A. She has since moved to Portland, and her design is great. It's called Rainy Day Stories.

Amanda's husband has a journal called Thom's Place, and the two journals complement one another very well.

A recent find is Blue and Green. I don't know what it is with me and all the journallers who live in L.A. I think I keep hoping they'll say something about a celebrity, or one of them will get discovered and I can say I knew them when.

I kept reading about Heather's journal, More Than This in other people's lists. I finally checked it out for myself and now I know why.

Medea's Memoirs is the journal of a doctor in Michigan - reading it is kinda like watching ER! He is also an artist and newlywed.

The Queen of all Journalers, The Mighty Kymm, updates just about every day, and then some. Kymm lives in NYC, and works in Accounts Payable - but by night she is an actress and director in the theater. She's a great writer and a wonderful storyteller.

Payada is an LSU graduate who now lives in Phoenix. She just got a digital camera, and that combined with her beautiful design, make me green with envy. Her journal is called Easily Amused.

The anonymous Texas-based author of Never started the journal to chronicle her journey to reunite with a former boyfriend who lives in Sweden. Now she is back from meeting him again, but her journey continues in a new journal called Noise.

Katie is a teenager, wise beyond her years, who writes a journal called Digital Ink. Reading her journal makes me relive my teenage years, both the good and the bad.

Denise writes The Last Girl Scout. I KNOW I started reading this one because she lives in Michigan. I have contacted her by e-mail and she is as nice in person as in her journal.

Ceit has some beautiful design in Book of the Amber Dragon, and the content is not too shabby either.

Why did it take me so long to start reading Man About Murfreesboro? And no, Mike and I are not related.

Another former Michigan resident, who now lives somewhere in California, is Shelley, author of Shelleyness. She has a lot of opinions. I like that in a girl.

chuck'stake is written by an aspiring TV writer, and his writing skills show. He lives in California with his wife, who also has a journal called Stiches in Time. It's interesting to see two sides of the same story, and it doesn't hurt that they are both great writers.

Diane is another aspiring writer, and one of the senior journal writers out there. Her journal is called Nobody Knows Anything.

Stasi is a social worker, and her journal gives glimpses into both her work and her life. It's called Covet What Was Mine.

Grace is a law student, and I find that I often share her taste in books and movies. Her journal is called Gracefully Yours

Tim is the best - he's a British teenager and he sounds like a cross between Adrian Mole and Tim Hunter from the Books of Magic. He cracks me up, and his journal is called I Wasn't Built to Get Up At This Time.

Stef lives near Albany, NY (not too far from me!) and writes a journal called Fiendish Thingy. Her design rocks!

xeney's latest journal is called Bad Hair Days. She also has a great weblog and is (deservedly) one of the most well-known journallers around.
