    She Was Too Punk Rock

Frankie from Real World: San Diego has died. As much as I made fun of her in my recaps (especially her FEAR OF LARGE BOATS), it’s still kind of sad, mostly because I think that was the last season of the show that I watched in its entirety. My mom died halfway through Austin, so I stopped recapping it, and I just never went back. I’ve caught a few episodes here and there, but I think the show got too dumb and I got too old.

I haven’t watched an entire season of Real World in forever (like you, I realized I am too old and their casts are way, way too dumb; didn’t stop me from watching the Vegas Reunion though) but I remember Frankie and The Boats of Doom. So, so sad to die so young but seemingly more so knowing that she lived her entire adult life knowing she wasn’t long for this world.

I’m really sorry about your mom, as well.

I always had conflicted reactions to Frankie. As much as I found her annoying and drama queeny, I always appreciated how awesomely difficult it must be to live your life as normally as possible while knowing it may end very soon. I WAS sad when she left the season, because she was kind of an interesting off-set to the character types that have become the show’s norm the past few years.

I feel bad, because she was so young, but I have to be honest, the first thing I thought when I heard that she had died was, “I wonder how much longer she would have lived if she had quit smoking.”

My cousin and I used to cut and paste things from those recaps into emails and send them to each other. God, Kim, those were hysterical.

Anyway, death is always sad. She seemed like a strange character.
