Wondering where the big February sweeps stunts were this year? Did you know that they moved sweeps to March? Well, they did! Make sure you don’t miss any big sweep events and download Your March 2009 TV Calendar.
PS I know I haven’t been updating as much here lately — friend me on Facebook (mention my blog in your request in case I don’t know your name) or follow my Twitter account if you want more frequent updates. But I will try to post here a bit when I find something really interesting.
I wrote a Twitter about this the other day, but it bears repeating. Eric Nies claims that he was almost cast as Robin in the Val Kilmer Batman movie, but was told that he couldn’t have the role because he would outshine Kilmer on the screen. ERIC NIES! THE GRIND! The best part was the other people on the show listening to this bullshit with straight faces. Also, in an earlier episode, Nies revealed that the secret to his shiny hair is that he rinses it with his own urine. How could I make this up? I almost wish this show had more episodes just to see what dumb shit Nies is going to pop off about next.
Finally, the mystery of the Brody Jenner cutout with girl jeans is solved. As revealed on last night’s episode of Bromance, it was an elaborate hoax perpetrated on the show’s contestants. Thank GOD!
The New York Timesis liveblogging Obama’s first day in the White House and even though it’s not a hotbed of activity while things are in transition, I still find it fascinating in a West Wing behind-the-scenes sort of way. The best tidbit is that his staff has to take an ETHICS class. Ethics! In the White House! It’s a brand new day!
Some administrators at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) have moved into the dorms with the students for a few days and are blogging their experiences. I think that A) this is a great idea and will help the administrators remember what it’s like to be a student and B) it’s fascinating to read about as an outsider, even if they are probably censoring some of the details. Reading the blog takes me back a little bit. I didn’t have a great experience at the beginning of my freshman year, which was about 40% my fault and 60% bad roommate. But reading about all the anxiousness about going to the showers or finding someone to eat with does bring it back, good and bad.
When I was in high school, I did a program where we got to shadow someone for a day to learn more about their profession. At the time, I thought I wanted to be a political speechwriter, and I got matched up with Representative Louise Slaughter. I don’t remember a ton about the day, other than that she was really nice to me and had a lot of meetings (which she let me sit in on), and that her staff spent a lot of time answering constituents’ phone calls and helping them get certain benefits they were owed.
Jason Eating McDonald’s from Kim Reed on Vimeo.I went over to visit Mary and Terry and Jeremy and Jason, and shot a little video of Jason enjoying his dinner. Especially the pie.
And Matthew Weiner will be at the helm. WHEW! Can you imagine another season without him? Here's what I like about the show:
1. The general tone and vibe
2. Jon Hamm/Don Draper
3. The portrayal of female characters — the variety of circumstances, the recognition of their quiet desperation without seeming heavy-handed about it
4. The clothes/set design
Here's what I sometimes don't like about the show:
1. The storylines. I don't really watch the show for the fantastic and dynamic plots, and yet I'm still willing to go along for the ride.
