April 21, 2000

One year ago: I went on a rant about the shootings in Littleton. The only good thing about the extensive media coverage of Elian Gonzalez is that the media hasn't been completely overtaken with Columbine remembrances. I've seen some, sure, but it hasn't been as bad as I thought it would be. If it was a slow news period though, it definitely would be bad.

What have I been up to this week? Party of Five recaps. I swear to God, it feels like that's all I've been doing. First, the one for last week was late. I just finished that on Wednesday. Then, there were two new episodes this week. I just finished the first one. I still have one to go. I am so sick of the Salingers right now, I could spit. But only two more episodes EVER! The series finale is on May 3rd and it can't come soon enough for me.

The semester is winding down too. My last actual class is on May 1st. My last assignment is due May 5th. And then I'm done. I'm not planning on going to the commencement ceremonies because I'm planning on going to Toronto to visit Wing Chun. In some ways, I'm kind of worried that I won't have any closure on my whole graduate school experience. But then again, I really don't want to sit through the ceremony. I'm proud of myself for completing the program, and I'm happy to have my degree, but I've been through two graduation ceremonies, and that's enough for me.

I've been having really weird nightmares lately. I think they are the result of my anxiety over finishing school, looking for a full time job and planning my class reunion. In one, I was at the reunion and I suddenly realized that I forgot to book a D.J. It came time to finish dinner and start dancing, and there was no D.J. So I was making all these phone calls, trying to find someone to come and fill in. Then, I decided to be the D.J. myself, and everyone kept coming up and requesting songs, but I either couldn't find the CD or I would play the wrong track. Then I remembered that Jim was there with me, and he was a professional DJ, so I started looking for him. When I finally found him, it wasn't Jim. It was Venus Flytrap from WKRP in Cincinnati. The hell?

Last night I had a nightmare that I was going for a walk in the woods and it was really snowy and suddenly a wolf was there. I tried to avoid the wolf, but he was chasing me and I was scared to run because I knew he would catch me. My dad was at the end of the trail and I was trying to yell to him, but I couldn't yell. Finally, I got into someone's garage and I was hiding under the car, and then something started nudging my leg. When I looked, it was just a baby wolf that couldn't hurt me. I realize both of these dreams are like textbook psychology, but I have no idea what they mean beyond general anxiety. Feel free to send me your interpretations.

I got the weirdest e-mail the other day. I'm not going to reprint it here, because it used some very strong language (like so strong that I was even offended, and I'm usually not offended by strong language), but basically this guy e-mailed me to tell me what a terrible person I am because I said something mean about Dan Hedaya, the actor (Nick Tortelli from Cheers). I knew I should ignore it, but I honestly couldn't remember saying anything bad about the guy. I searched my site and everything, but couldn't find anything. After a few e-mails back and forth, I finally realized that the e-mailer read something I wrote on the Fametracker forums where I called Dan Hedaya "a hairy freak". Well, he is! So I wrote back to the guy and said something like, "I'm sorry if I hurt the feelings of you or Mr. Hedaya. As a celebrity, I'm sure he is used to being judged by his physical appearance. He is a hairy guy. I think the language you used in your e-mail was completely uncalled for. I'm sure Dan Hedaya is drying his tears on a hundred-dollar bill."

I was going to post more funny search engine phrases that caused people to find my site, but there was nothing that interesting. I did find it amusing that five different people found my site by searching for pictures of Sarah Vowell. Also, someone was searching for "What will happen on the series finale of 90210?" Well, MBTV just posted an article on that very topic, written by your friend and mine, Pamie. So there you go.
