April 25, 2000

One year ago today: no update, but almost a year ago today, I talked about why my mom cracks me up, and begged for e-mail. Some things never change.

Blogger is down, which limits my ability to update my weblog. I could do it (gasp!) by hand, but I'll just wait until it comes back up. That reminds me that I should download my archives in case something happens, and then back them up to a Zip disk. Like you guys are interested in my digital housekeeping.

Back by popular demand today, Kim's dance party of one. Today I was dancing to "Kiss" by Prince. I'm no Julia Roberts, but I still had a lot of fun. It's a nice break from my work, anyway. Yes, I do work occassionally. Today, I am working on my final project for a class that is due Friday. We are set to have a chat about it tonight (during Buffy! Argh!) so I figured I had better get as much done as possible.

Friday night, Jim and I rented The Sixth Sense and Jet Li: Fist of Legend. I had never seen either one, although I knew the big secret about Sixth Sense. How could I not? I still enjoyed the movie, although it wasn't as scary as I had anticipated. I put off watching it while Jim was gone, because I was worried that I would have a Blair Witch redux, and not be able to sleep. I shouldn't have worried. I really wish I could have seen the movie fresh, like opening weekend, without knowing all the famous parts ("I see dead people"). Just goes to show you that when a movie like that comes out, it pays to see it early. The Jet Li movie was entertaining. I had been interested in seeing one of his movies after seeing The Matrix and previews for Romeo Must Die (which I always wanted to call Romeo Is Bleeding -- very different movies). The storyline was kind of confusing and I kept getting the characters confused because they all dressed alike. The fight scenes were awesome, though. If you liked the fight scenes in The Matrix, you would like this movie. It's a bit more low-budget and cheesy, but Jet Li (and the others in the film) are fantastic athletes.

Saturday night, we went to the supergush CD release party. The guys put a lot of work into both creating the CD, and promoting the show, and they deserve many congratulations. The turnout was awesome, I thought. It took place at the Hotel Syracuse (same place as New Year's Eve party), and the room is pretty big. Certainly a lot bigger than most of the bars they play. And yet, almost all the tables were full. Mary was working the concession stand, doing a brisk business selling CDs and t-shirts, and giving away temporary tattoos and frisbees. As tends to happen when there is alcohol being served, people got a little crazy as the night wore on, but nothing got out of hand. One of the guys from Jim's softball team last summer really, really, really wanted to put a temporary tattoo on his forehead but he wasn't having much luck because he was too sweaty. Mary helped him out and it finally worked on about the fifth or sixth try. I wish I had my camera so I could've taken a picture of it. I bought a bunch of CDs and got them all autographed, and I had to wait in line! Maybe that's a sign of things to come!

Easter Sunday, we went over to Jim's parents house for dinner, and got to see the family. We had lamb for dinner, and I was a little nervous about that, but it was pretty good. Jim's niece was very concerned that we were having a leg of lamb, because what if the lamb was bleeding and he couldn't walk? There was much Easter candy to be had, and the kids (and Jim) got all sugared up.

Well, I have a lot of other things I should be working on, as the semester ends in less than a week. I meet with my client about my consulting job on Thursday, so keep your fingers crossed for me that it goes smoothly and she's not sorry she hired me! I'm hoping that job turns out to be enough hours that between that and my writing, I can put off the full-time job search for a while, and focus on what kind of job I want instead of just taking a job to have a job. That's what Jim thinks I should do (and I'm glad he's so supportive), but I want to wait until I find out more about the consulting gig to make a final decision. Later!
