January 7, 2000

I am writing this somewhat belatedly, as on the actual 7th of January, I was down and out with the flu. Luckily, it was only the 24 hour variety. I know some people have been getting that nasty 5 day flu, and I don't know that I could have taken it for 5 days! But all I did on Friday was sleep and blow my nose and other bodily functions that you don't need or want to know about. So I'm filling in the blank today.

Thursday night, I went with Mary and Molly to see the Noisy Boys play. The Noisy Boys is Stimp and Terry playing acoustic, mostly covers. They like to refer to it as the revenue-generating portion of their musical act. Most of the money they make playing gigs as supergush goes back into the band -- producing their new CD or paying for various publicity stuff. The Noisy Boys money either buys equipment or helps them pay the bills.

Anyway, they had a show at a local high school coffee shop type thing. The high school is right near Molly's house, so Mar and I went and picked her up. I got to meet Molly's new dog, and he is a cutie! Her house is looking great as well. I hadn't been by since she first moved in, and they are really settling in. I am so jealous of her basement. I know that sounds silly, but she has a nice modern basement (i.e. no "scary basement factor"). It's well-lit, with lots of storage space. She has her own little laundry center, and she can keep her ironing board set up all the time! It's the little things that impress me, really.

We went to the show, and we were afraid we would feel really stupid because it would be a bunch of high school kids and then us. When we got there, the only people there were the kids working the door and the coffee shop, and Stimp's brother with a group of his friends. This really nerdy kid sat down next to Mary even though there were like 6 other completely empty tables. Mary noted that when she was in high school, she probably would have made fun of the kid (come on, you would've too, unless you were an incredibly mature high school student) but now she just felt bad for him.

The three of us talked a lot, and I'm sure Stimp and Ter appreciated our attention. We were joking about how the high school kids must see us as so incredibly old (none of us are over 30, by the way, so we're not really THAT old!). We were saying how they were probably going to come by and offer us bridge cards and a Reader's Digest. I guess you had to be there.

The boys' set turned out to be kind of short (I guess the high school kids have to be home early - it was a school night!) We helped them pack up and then went over to Molly's house for some chips and salsa. Overall, I had a great time! I love hanging out with Molly and Mary, and I don't get to often enough! We are planning a shopping expedition to Rochester soon, because we all have to go to stores they don't have here in Syracuse. That should be a good time!

Jim bought this cable to hook his Rio into his stereo receiver, so now we can listen to MP3s through our stereo speakers. He cautions that although I am showing it on the Radio Shack site, it's cheaper elsewhere (he got his at Best Buy).

Also from Jim, Brunching Shuttlecocks has a Random Bar Joke Generator that is incredibly zen and also incredibly hilarious. The best part is, sometimes they make some sort of sense.

Mystery Meat Navigation: This site explains what it is and then gives LOTS of examples. I don't think I use this style. Do I? The only rollovers I use on this site are on the front page, and they are just meant to designate which section is currently selected, but it doesn't give any further information.

From the same site: How big should my page be? Mine is a LOT smaller than any of those listed, but then again, I have a lot less information and no ads (which slow down loading time, in my experience)
