Hope everyone had a nice weekend. Unfortunately, Supergush didn't win any awards Friday night. It's all politics anyway.

Here's something that was bugging me about the local music scene. This one guy works for the Syracuse Newspapers. And, he manages and produces a "stable" of artists in town - kind of his own little Motown. Now, I support his right to have a side career and all. But I know when I was booking acts for Borders, I always felt kind of obligated to book his acts to play in the store so that I would get better coverage from the newspaper for the store. Of course, he never said that I had to do that. But I still felt like if I didn't book his acts, he wouldn't like me and thus perhaps even subconsciously give my events short shrift. He has since moved to a copy editing position where he doesn't have as much say over what does and does not get into the paper. But it seems like a kind of conflict of interest.

I don't blame the paper because I know they probably never even thought about it. The music critic for the paper was very concerned about not appearing to be biased. I threw a release party at the store when the Beatles Anthology came out, and the music critic wouldn't even accept a piece of free cake because he didn't want to appear to be accepting gifts in return for news coverage. Whiel that was a little extreme, I appreciated that he was aware of the issue.

I have just over a week of school left so of course everything is due this week. In fact, instead of writing this journal entry, I have about 5 other projects I should be working on. I guess it shows where my priorities lie. But a week from today, at the end of the day, all of my projects will be finished. All I will have left is a paper and a final. Two weeks from today, at the end of the day, the semester will be over. That is both comforting and frightening at the same time.

Jim and I grilled some steaks for dinner yesterday. What a great summertime feeling that is - to eat grilled steaks. I should have made iced tea or lemonade or something. Why is it that anything tastes better grilled? I can't wait until we have a house and can buy a big grill with fancy knobs and a vinyl cover.

I've been having serious sleeping issues lately. It doesn't matter whether I get 5 hours of sleep or 10, I'm still tired when I wake up. It's pretty annoying. Last night, I got about 5 hours of sleep. The night before I got 11 hours of sleep. And I feel the exact same. I need to start going to bed at the same time every night and getting up the same time every morning. I say that, but watch - tonight, I will be up until 3 AM.

Jim went to see The Matrix for the second time yesterday. I haven't seen it at all. Yesterday, during dinner, he relayed the entire movie to me. Now I'm kind of interested in seeing it. He is a really good storyteller. I am trying to get him to write a review of it for this site, so we'll see. E-mail him and tell him how much you would like to see his review!

So apparently, this company Bebe provides clothing for skinny women. They have provided clothes for Ally McBeal in particular. I haven't ever seen one of their stores, but you can be sure I will be passing them right by. Kind of like 5*7*9. It's size discrimination. And shut up, it's not because I don't fit into those sizes. There was a time I did, and I still boycotted them!

Something else I don't get about the Columbine shootings. Thank God this is the case, but the shooters weren't really very effective, were they? For the amount of firepower they carried, and the amount of planning that they did, I'm surprised that more people didn't die. But thank God for that, right?

And what is up with the lawsuits? I can understand the desire to blame someone for your children's death, but is the money really going to help? Our legal system is so screwed up.
