Can you believe the summer is almost over? I start classes in a week! This semester is going to be great because I'm only taking 2 classes, and they are both on Tuesdays during the day. A lot of people in my program are part time, so a lot of the courses are only offered at night. I'm not sure how I lucked out in getting both of my classes during the day, and on the same day! I'm pretty excited about that. The bad part is, next semester is going to suck. It's my last semester, and I'll be doing 3 classes again, plus working for one or more professors. I'll probably get stuck with all night classes again. Plus, they put out a tentative spring schedule and none of the classes sound interesting. I'm hoping they add some more! None of the professors I really like are teaching any grad level classes either. Blech! Well, I'm not going to worry about it for a few months, anyway. This semester I am taking E-Commerce and Human Computer Interaction. I'm pretty excited about both classes. I GA's for the E-Commerce prof last fall, so I have a pretty good idea what he's like and what the class is like. He's pretty cool and I think he likes me. I've heard good things about the other professor too. I've learned in this program (as with others I'm sure), the professor is so much more important than the course title. I took a class called "Information Networking" earlier this summer and it was great! But what a boring sounding title. Friday night I did a whole lot of nothing - worked some more on my internship site as we are supposed to go live on Wednesday! I hope it's ready. Saturday, Justin came over and he and Jim played Playstation games. We also watched part of the Good Dog U! marathon on Animal Planet. Justin is a dog trainer, so it's interesting to hear his views on what that guy does right and wrong. He does a lot wrong. Even I (who have never owned a dog) could pick out some of the things he does wrong - it's just common sense! Sunday we went to a picnic at my aunt's house. A big topic of conversation was this website and the thing I wrote about my cousins a while back. It makes me feel weird to think that people I know read this. I've never made any attempts to be anonymous, and I don't write anything that I don't want the world to see. It just makes me feel uncomfortable when people I don't talk to that often bring up something I wrote here. Next weekend, I'm going to see the other side of my family, and my mom gave them all my URL last week. So that should be interesting. I need to get over it - if I don't want people to see stuff, I shouldn't put it on the web. The thing that bothered me was the underlying feeling I had that my family thinks I'm a big geek because I have a website. Like my brother was making fun of my webcam. But that's my problem. Anyway, we had a good time at the picnic. There were dogs running around and such. My brother is supposed to break ground on building his house (next door to my aunt's) in the spring. I'm pretty excited about that and I'm hoping for some nieces or nephews in the not too distant future. But no pressure. They have said that they want kids at some point - I don't want to be one of those people who thinks that every couple needs to procreate. If you want to, great. If not, fine. That's about as far as my theory of procreation goes. My Aunt Joyce had pictures of my cousin Stephen's baby and new house. I can't wait until they come home for Christmas so I can see the baby. And Steve and Jen of course :) It'll be a change of pace to have a baby on that side of the family - there hasn't been one since Jonathan was a baby, about 15 years ago, I guess. On my mom's side of the family there are lots of kids! Next weekend, I'll get to see Tanner and Cody and Kiara (one family) and Sierra (another family). I'm not sure if I'm spelling Kiara right, but the two girls are both about 4 months old. My family keeps expanding! |
Warning: clicking on these links will launch a new browser window. So Roger Black, a newspaper designer, is getting into website design. Two of this theories that I disagree with are: use big pictures and don't worry about what your readers want (i.e. poll the staff and management on what they want). Then again, he's making a lot more money than I am. I like this site: The New Homemaker. I haven't totally explored it yet, but she has a great concept: men or women who are staying at home (with kids, generally) and are NOT domestic gods and goddesses, and need a little help. I would certainly fall into that category (minus the kids, but plus cats). Bobby Sheehan (bassist for Blues Traveler) found dead. Montel Williams has multiple sclerosis. Can't get enough info about Dana Plato's death? I have to wonder how you can get to be a senior writer for Enterainment Weekly and NEVER watch television. Why don't they hire me? |
