Did you miss me? I'm baaaack. So much to say. First, the new Real World episode summary is up, if you like that sort of thing. Second, Wing Chun and Glark's new site has launched - it's called Fametracker, and I love it. Oh, and if you haven't checked out TomatoNation lately, check out the redesign. OK, I think that takes care of business. On with the journal entry. Last Friday (the 2nd), I went to Six Flags Darien Lake. Jim and I met up with Jim's best friend Ken, and we drove out there to meet up with Wing Chun and Glark. I used to go to Darien Lake quite a bit as a youngster, because I only lived 45 minutes away. We used to go every summer at least once or twice. Anyway, I haven't been in about 5 years, and a lot has changed! I was nervous to meet Wing Chun and Glark in person. I've never made friends with someone on the web and then met them in person. You start to think, "What if I hate this person? What if she hates me? What if we have nothing to talk about?" We arrived at the park just as it opened and met up with the Terrible Twosome from Toronto. We exchanged hellos and I wasn't sure what I was supposed to do. Handshake? Hug? High five? I settled on a handshake, and I think that was right. We decided to get right in line for the new Superman roller coaster because it's brand new this season and we figured it would attract the largest crowd. Jim doesn't do roller coasters, so he hung out outside and held the backpacks. Ken and Glark launched into a big conversation (they used to work together in L.A., which is how I found out about Wing Chun and Glark in the first place). So, Wing and I started to chat. At first, I think I was trying too hard to be funny, but she was so nice and funny and smart that I quickly stopped thinking so much and just enjoyed the conversation. We must've stood in line for about an hour, but the time flew by. I almost wanted to step out of line to finish our conversation! The coaster itself was AWESOME! I highly recommend it. We went on the ferris wheel next, which is super high. Then we visited the arcade. Wing and I had drinks, which were not allowed in the arcade, so we sat outside and chatted some more. I picked her brain a bit about web stuff, and learned a lot. Then we did miniature golf. Jim and Glark were neck and neck the whole way. We decided to bet that the first person to get a hole in one would get a free dessert from everyone else. I then got a hole in one on that very hole! Unfortunately, we forgot about it by the time we got to dinner, but it's the thought that counts. I was very proud. All those Putt Putt trips in high school paid off. I think next we went on a roller coaster called Mind Eraser. It's the kind where you hang down from the track instead of sitting on top of it. There was no line at all, which was cool. I really loved that one too, but it did buffet your head around to the point where we all had red, sore ears when we got off. After that, we decided to hit the road as there weren't really any other rides we were interested in and it was hot and we were tired. We went to the Walden Galleria, a mall in Buffalo, and wandered around a bit. We had dinner, which was pretty good, but we had one of those waitresses who sits down at your table, which I hate. I'm there to eat dinner, not make friends. So go away. We decided to see a movie, and bought tickets to Summer of Sam. While waiting for the movie to start, we went to an arcade again. Right next to the arcade was some games store, that sold supplies for role playing games, and had boards and stuff set up where people could come in and play games. Jim was looking at something in there, and I walked in to see what he was up to, and I started giggling and couldn't stop. It was just the biggest concentration of nerdiness, ever. There were like 5 teenage boys in there saying things like "I throw 3 points of magic lightning at your gnome". While I think it's great that these guys have a place to go do their thing, it was just too much. I decided to go to Old Navy and buy Jim a t-shirt because he had spilled ketchup on his shirt at dinner. Finally, we headed in to the movie. It was terrible. It was so bad. Please don't see it. Maybe I will do a full review later, but trust me on this one. Afterwards, we headed to the parking lot and said our goodbyes. I felt really good about our day, and I hope I get to see Wing Chun and Glark again some day. All in all, a great, if tiring, day. |
Warning: clicking on these links will launch a new browser window. Some good stuff at The Den today: another ER castmember leaving, Tiger Woods commercial controversyl, reviews of Chris Rock's new show and Deborah Gibson's big comeback. Mental image I didn't need: Tori Spelling talks about her long dry spell and what that means for her next boyfriend. Dawson's Creek's third season will be more like the first, and less like the melodramatic second. Thank God. There's a show about The Blair Witch Project on the SciFi Channel tonight - don't miss it! The official nationwide opening date is now July 30th. Some woman is suing an amusement park (not Darien Lake) because the Mind Eraser caused her to lose her memory. See, I told you your head got knocked around! You gotta love that Delilah. I listen to her sometimes on the radio. I want to plug my film development place, Mystic Color Labs. They give you postage paid envelopes, and you can get your film developed to disk, CD or on the internet for download. And you get free doubles, and it doesn't take that long. There aren't any places around here that develop APS film quickly, and the ones that do it in 24 hours charge a lot. So I love this place! |
