From yesterday: Hey, we've got some new subscribers to the notify list! Welcome one and all. Remember, if you want an e-mail every time I update my journal, go here. Plus my notify list might get extra little tidbits from time to time. If you want to get an e-mail every time I upload something Real World related, go here. You can be on both mailing lists, one or the other, or neither. It's all up to you. My cable modem connection is down right now and it SUCKS! I don't realize how often, even if I'm working on something offline, I go and check something out on the web, or check my e-mail, or ICQ someone. Usually when my connection is down, one of the lights on the modem is blinking, but right now none are. And, when I try to call tech support, to see if they are workingon the line in this area, it's busy. Or the numbers dial and then nothing happens - no ringing, no busy signal, nothing. Do you think my ISP exploded or something? I feel naked without my web connection. Do you see what I've been reduced to? Also, I haven't gotten any mail in two days. No junk mail, no coupons, no circulars, no bills, nothing. And neither have my upstairs neighbors. Doesn't that seem a little weird? If I were paranoid, I would think that someone is trying to cut off my connections to the outside world, but slowly. First the mail. Now the modem. Soon it will be the phone. Wow, I just kind of scared myself. Anyhow, of course as soon as I called customer service, my connection came back and I felt like an idiot. Jim and I are trying to quit smoking. Well, Jim has pretty much quit, and I'm just starting to try. He's been smoke free for 4 days. He just up and decided to quit. I have to have a plan, plus the day before he told me, I just bought a carton that I can't bring myself to throw out. So my plan is that as of today, I'm trying to cut back, and I'm no longer allowed to smoke in the house or the car. That way, I can rid myself of my habits of smoking in front of the computer, or while talking on the phone (my two worst times), and wind down on the nicotine. Because there's two parts to the addition for me: the nicotine and the habit. The habit I'm confident I can break. The nicotine, I'm not so sure. But I'm going to try. It would be easier if I had an actual office job instead of sitting here by myself all day thinking, "No one will know if I sneak one. I mean, I'm all alone here!" So e-mail me stories of how you quit, or supportive e-mails and stuff if you want. If I have to write about my progress every day in my journal, I think I'm more likely to be honest about it. So, Mary and I went to see American Pie last night. I have two words for you: Hi. Larious. I went expecting something along the lines of Varsity Blues or Porky's - vaguely amusing, kind of disgusting, easily forgotten. But this movie cracked me right up. And I don't normally go for the gross out humor. I didn't really see what the big deal was in There's Something About Mary. I watched it, a few parts were a little funny, but I don't think I ever laughed out loud. I guffawed loudly through all of American Pie. So, I recommend it. It is gross. Don't get me wrong. Going in though, I knew about all the gross parts (i.e. the pie scene, the beer scene). I didn't know the rest of it was so funny. And someone needs to give Allyson Hannigan a leading role STAT! OK, enough about that. Please don't e-mail me and tell me that you hated it. I'm sure there are people out there who did. I'm not one of them. You telling me that you hated it isn't going to change my mind. Thanks
That is Jim's sister's new puppy, Pocket. She brought him on vacation and I somehow ended up with a ton of pictures of him. I got my pictures done by the way. I was in the midst of downloading them from the Mystic Photo Labs website when my connection went to hell. So I only got some of them. None of the black and white ones, some of which turned out pretty good. I might put up a page of just pictures today - if you're on the notify list, you'll know. |
Warning: clicking on these links will launch a new browser window. I wish I had a way to track which of these links gets clicked on, and how often. Does anyone know a way to track that? Don't be shy! If you're thinking about a career in usability (as I am), you may want to read this article. Hell, if your work or non-work life has anything to do with web design and development, you may want to read this article. In the music industry, as with everywhere else, the more things change, the more they stay the same. I'm sending this link to lots of websites! It's all about How to Make An Annoying Web Page (thanks to Cam). Have I mentioned that Beth is back? The online journal community rejoices. CNN Style reviews 5 new style magazines, some of which actually look interesting. This is a hilarious editorial about all the Eyes Wide Shut hype. There is talk of a Seinfeld spinoff starring Jackie Childs, the singularly unfunny Johnnie Cochran character. Please, no. Peace out!
