So Sunday was quite the eventful day. We got up early (for me) at 9 a.m. to get ready for Balloonfest. It's an all day concert and then at dusk they launch some hot air balloons. Unfortunately, it was too windy for the hot air balloons, but we really just went to see supergush play anyway. The guys went on first at noon. It was funny because the second band was The Moffatts, who have been referred to as the Canadian Hanson. This is primarily because they are brothers, and play bubble gum pop music. So there were all these screaming teenyboppers there, and I think supergush kind of confused them. But they were nice and gave the boys a good reception (although they did all run off to the side when one of the Moffatts was spotted getting out of the tour bus). The funniest part was after the set, they were coming up to the guys and asking for their autographs! Hmm, maybe I should get their autographs in case they are famous someday. It might be worth something. After The Moffatts came Tryx, a local cover band. They were awful. Musically, song selection, everything. They actually played "Come Sail Away" by Styx as a serious song. And it wasn't even that good. Next up was Fastball, who you may know from their hit single "The Way". They weren't that great either. The Spin Doctors (remember them?) were supposed to be last, but the lead singer did something to his throat and couldn't sing so we left. Well, that's not why we left, but it was one reason. It was about a thousand degrees. There were tons of people and no shade anywhere. We all put sunscreen on and got burned anyway. Jim especially was dying with all that hair. He said it felt like he was wearing a wool hat. And he was running around playing Frisbee and I was afraid he was going to drop dead. After we left, he decided he wanted to cut all his hair off. He has been talking about this for a while, but originally he wanted to go totally bald. I was against this idea, because he is very pale skinned, generally. I thought he would look like Powder. He insisted he needed to start from scratch - he was just going to go bald once, and then let it grow back. I didn't see the sense in this. Back and forth, back and forth. But when he decided to actually do it, he let me just cut it really short. He hasn't had a hair cut (besides me trimming it from waist length to shoulder blade length) in over 10 years! I was a little nervous. I got the scissors and chopped off his ponytail first. His hair is so thick, I had to do it in two sections. I want to do one and just snip it off, and then keep it. But that didn't work out. Then I trimmed the hair all over his head to about an inch long or so. Then I got out the clippers and used the longest guard (I think it was 1/2 inch) and did his whole head. Then I switched to 1/4 inch and did the back and over his ears. I tried to use the blending guard, but that didn't work out so well. I think it still looks pretty good though. There was A LOT of hair on the floor. Suddenly, I had a brand new boyfriend! He looks like a totally different person at first glance. I think it looks great though. He looks younger to me, for some reason. I can't stop rubbing my hands across his hair - I love short hair! He doesn't seem that affected by it, but I wish we had a digital camera so I could put a picture up here so his far away family and friends could see it. I wish I knew someone with a digital camera! If anyone reading this lives in Syracuse and has a digital camera, want to come over and take a picture of Jim? Let me know. Oh, and for the people who were amazed by my web wizardry yesterday - I didn't do it. I did it in Dreamweaver 2. I mean, I came up with the idea, and I figured out that I had to make frames in the popup windows to get the no margin appearance, but I didn't write the javascript. I'm still learning that part. |
There's a new service called Streamline. They come and install a refrigerated locked box with shelving in your garage or basement. They fit you up with bar code scanners to determine what you buy and how often. Then the automatically deliver groceries, videos, and other objects on a weekly basis. And it only costs about $30/month more than you would pay if you did all that shopping yourself. Wow, that could be really cool. They're going public, if you want to buy in. That reminds me that Jim and I always meant to start a Sunday morning business. We would deliver bagels, cream cheese, donuts, coffee, a paper...whatever you need. So you don't have to get out of your jammies on Sunday morning. Cool! Lucasfilm got the go ahead to take over the Presidio. I don't know why, but I find these stories about foreign objects found in dog poop fascinating. Even more fascinating is that someone made a web site out if it. |
