October 19, 1999
Ack!
You let these things go for one day and they pile up on you!
It's not actually the 19th anymore, but I'm going back and
filling in so I don't mess up my index pages. On the actual
19th, I was busy being at class.
The picture today is another selection from my trip to Oakwood
Cemetary. This one is all by itself up in the woods, near
the caretaker's house. You have to walk up a little path to
find it. When Jim pointed it out to me, I said "Aslan!".
That's a Narnia reference, you know. Then I wanted to sit
on it and have him take my picture. Then I realized that it
was someone's burial site, and it would probably be a little
disrespectful to do that. I wonder why this person chose a
lion though? I know it's a Christian symbol and all, but so
are dolphins and I didn't see any of those.
Speaking of gravestones, I think it's really fucking creepy
when people get husband and wife plots. Wait, there's more.
Then then the husband dies, so it says: Joe Blow, 1910-1999
or something. Then next to it, it says: Mary, 1914- and then
a big blank for the death date. There's just something so
final about that. I know that Mary Blow is goingto die, and
I'm sure Mary knows that she's going to die. But does she
have to be so prepared? We did see some non-Y2K compliant
headstones. They said Mary Blow: 1914-19 . Unless Mary fixes
to die in the next few months, she's in big trouble! I wonder
if she could sue the people who sold her the stone?
I am really ashamed to admit this next part, but I watched
the WWF wrestling Monday night, and I didn't hate it. I got
really sucked in. It was just so hilarious! Do people really
take it seriously? Or does everyone just laugh at it? Of course,
I don't know any of the back story, so I was really confused.
But I might watch it again. You can't stop me.

An
interesting article about weblogs in general, and their
connection with epinions.
I've registered at epinions, but I haven't done any yet.
This
article discusses how a radio ad designed to dissuade
car buyers from using the Web might actually accomplish the
opposite.
I love Sarah Vowell. If you haven't listened to her reading
on "This
American Life", you should. And then go read her
stuff at Salon. Go on! I'll wait.
Did you like Cupid, the television show? You can download
some unaired scripts!
A lot of these links are thanks to Laurel from Windowseat
Weblog. Thanks, Laurel!
