And yet, for all that, I don't feel like I really know her that well. I even went on Spring Break with her junior year. But we never had any of those late night gab sessions that you seen to have so many of in college. She dated on of my good friends too, for about 4 years. Anyway, she just finished law school and took the Bar Exam, and was cleaning out her desk and found some pictures she thought I might want. Now, I saw her for about 10 minutes at the mall last summer, so she knew I was going to S.U. I guess she must have looked me up in the S.U. e-mail directory and found my e-mail address. The whole thing was just so unexpected. I thought she was still living in Syracuse and I was kind of like "What's up with sending me an e-mail and not suggesting we get together and catch up?" but then I realized that for all she knows, I don't WANT to get in touch with her. So I wrote her back a nice long e-mail asking all sorts of nosy questions about her life. And she wrote me back and I found out she is living in NYC and is engaged to a cop. It just got me thinking about those people who pass through your life that you lost touch with. I am usually pretty good about keeping in touch with people. I'm not one for weekly phone calls (except with close friends) but I send holiday cards, and will e-mail people once in a while just to say "What's up with you?" But despite anyone's best efforts, sometimes you just lose touch with people. I guess it makes it that much more interesting when they come back into your life in some way, right? On a totally different subject, I was watching St. Elsewhere the other night on TV Land. One of the nurses has breast cancer and was about to get a mastectomy. Anyway, the night before she was cleaning up the dinner dishes and crying, and her pre-teen daughter came in the kitchen. She asked her mother about the lump in her breast and her mom asked her if she wanted to feel it. So she took her daughter's hand and showed her what the lump felt like. I just thought that was such an honest scene, and one that you don't often see on television. I'm still thinking about it days later. In other TV Land news, I saw a picture of myself the other day, and I looked like Edith Bunker. I really have to start taking calcium supplements or I'm going to be a hunchback at 65. Well, Jim got out of work early because of the holiday weekend (Labor Day for you non-Americans), so we are going out to dinner and a movie tonight. I'm not doing an entry Monday but I'll be back probably late Tuesday. Later! |
Warning: clicking on these links will launch a new browser window. Another Salon serial that's got me hooked (no pun intended): The life of a high paid call girl. Sandra Bullock will guest star on the new Fox show "Action". I love it when movie stars guest on TV usually. Except Jean Claude Van Damme on Friends. That was dumb. What is up with Kathie Lee not wearing a bra lately, and all the outcry? Aren't there more important things to worry about? Like why she is so annoying? The movie of Hannibal will have a more upbeat ending than the book. God, I hope so. The book's ending was TERRIBLE! I've always wanted a GameBoy, but now I want the new 32 bit GameBoy!
