Anyway, to continue my lovely holiday weekend... Monday, Jim had the day off for Labor Day. We had decided to go for a walk in Oakwood Cemetary, a local historic burial grounds. It's in between where we park for school/work and the building Jim works in, so when he has time in the morning he often walks through it on his way into work. It's really pretty, with rolling hills and lots of trees, and some of the old gravestones are really interesting looking. So we decided it would be a nice walk. Except that I didn't take into account how out of shape I truly am. I do fine on level surfaces - walking around the State Fair for 7 hours didn't bother me. And the fact that is was 90+ degrees and I forgot to bring water didn't help. So I was huffing and puffing over hill and dale, and I really thought I was going to die. This only happened when we were nearly to the back of the cemetary, lest you think I can't take 2 steps without collapsing. Jim kept offering to go and get the car, and drive out and pick me up, but I didn't want to be that lame. I put my game face on and kept going. Mostly, I was just hot and thirsty, and my bum knee was bugging me. And partly, I was ashamed of how out of shape I am. So I made it. But I really wished for air conditioning in our car. We went to the mall next because I had to buy Jim's birthday present (a portable MP3 player, if you skipped yesterday's entry) and we wanted to get a new hard drive for our computer. They have a deal where if you buy a hard drive, you get a free Zip drive. So we did that. Plus I got the biggest Coke I could find and some bottled water and rehydrated and felt much better. We got home and installed the new hard drive and transferred all the contents of our old hard drive. Then we put our old hard drive into our old computer, which we are going to give to Jim's dad. It all went off with very few glitches, and I was very proud of us. It's nice to be able to do that stuff yourself, because computer shops sometimes charge an arm and a leg. I was doing my reading for class that night and got a craving for KFC. This is odd because I hardly ever eat there. I mentioned it to Jim, and he said, "Why don't you go get some?" Then a commercial came on the TV, and I just had to go. Once I got out there, I thought - "I should buy Jim a Carvel ice cream cake for his birthday!" I had thought there was a Carvel near the KFC but I drove around for a while without finding it. Then I decided to go to Wegmans and get one there. Lo and behold, they have a little Carvel sponsored freezer in Wegmans, filled with ice cream cakes! I bought one and snuck it into the freezer at home. After we finished our KFC, I brought it out and sang happy birthday. I think Jim was very happy, especially because I let him open his present a day early. Yesterday I had class all day and the Jethro Tull concert at night. Not much to report there. I like my classes so far. Let's hope that keeps up. Peace out. |
Warning: clicking on these links will launch a new browser window. My friend Tara, AKA Wing Chun, was interviewed by ABC News. Go Tara! I promise I'm not actively looking for articles about whores, but this one is interesting. One thing this article about Waterstone's doesn't mention is how many TITLES they will carry. That, to me, is more impressive than how many books. After watching "Enemy of the State" last week, this news about Microsoft seems a bit scary. Thanks, Cam for the three links above. A Chicago Tribune article about weblogs that was probably linked to in lots and lots of other weblogs. How very meta. The CBS/Viacom merger puts some interesting players on the same team. If you live in Central New York, and you're planning a wedding, this appears to be the site for you. First Turkey. Now Athens.
