There's a new Real World summary up. This was a hard one to write because I have been a big Justin supporter in the past and I had to reconcile my feelings with his behavior, while trying to take into consideration how heavily the show is edited. I asked Jim if he thinks I am developing an ego problem because I get e-mails from people (mostly because of the Real World summaries, but a few from this journal) and they generally say things along the line of "You're great! You rock! You are hilarious!" I think it's great that people read what I write and enjoy it, but I try not to let it go to my head. In fact, usually I think I've got them all fooled! I'm really boring and have nothing interesting to say, and yet people read it. My birthday is this Sunday. I'll be 27 for those of you keeping track. I know some journalers get presents from readers (and in light of the paragraph above, I don't want to be presumptuous), but I'm not going to give out my mailing address, because I don't want anything. If you read this journal, and you want to recognize my birthday, feel free to send me an e-mail or something. Anyway, I didn't start that paragraph to say all that. I decided that for my birthday, from Jim, I wanted another domain name. I wanted www.kimreed.com. The reason is, I'm planning on taking over the world, one domain at a time. No, actually, I want to build a site for my design work, with links to sites that I've done, and I don't want it to be linked to this journal really. I mean, I realize that if a potential employer does a web search on my name, they'll find this site, and that's fine. But I don't want to make it that easy on them. Not that I say anything that inflammatory in here, but it is personal. And I don't think it looks professional to give a vanity site (which is really what this is) as a reference. Hopefully by the time I am job hunting, I will have more URLs to use. So Jim got it for me! I haven't put anything up there yet, so if you go there you won't see anything. I'm still investigating hosting strategies. It was supposed to be a surprise, except when Jim signed up for it, he used his home e-mail address and we share our e-mail Inbox, so suddenly there was an e-mail from register.com and the subject was "Invoice for kimreed.com". I forwarded it to him at work with a note tha said, "Oops!" and he wrote back and said, "Happy birthday!". Someone asked me, "What happens if you guys get married and you take Jim's last name?" While that is the least of my concerns, I figured I can always ask for kimdurr.com as a wedding present and then just transfer everything over. But I haven't decided if I'm taking his name or not. It's not a feminist issue for me - I'm pretty pragmatic and I think it's easier to have the same last name when applying for a mortgage or raising kids. However, if I have built some sort of professional reputation with my current name, I plan to keep it. I'm not going to do the one name at work, the other the rest of the time thing. I would get too confused. But I have time to decide as we won't even be thinking about marriage until I graduate next year. That's all for today. Have a good one. |
Warning: clicking on these links will launch a new browser window. One of the classes I am taking this semester is called Human Computer Interaction. This is an interesting article on just that topic. An article about corned beef sandwiches in NYC, which mentions Zingermans' Deli in Ann Arbor. (This and previous link from Cam) So Sara's OK, but now Floyd is heading for NC and SC. Which means, of course, that Dawson's Creek had to suspend taping. Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe had a baby girl. In case you were wondering. Insightful commentary or publicity stunt? Limp Bizkit's new video. My computer is acting up so I'm going to stop here before something bad happens.
